Edward "Ed" Arlin serves as senior vice president, General Motors for Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division. Arlin began his association with Siemens PLM Software in 1979 as a sales executive for major accounts at Unigraphics Solutions Inc. Unigraphics Solutions was engaged in the sales, service and development of software technology to support the automation of product engineering and manufacturing engineering processes. In 2001, EDS, which was a majority shareholder of Unigraphics Solutions, acquired all outstanding shares of the company and merged it with the recently acquired Structural Dynamics Research Company (SDRC) to form the PLM line of business later known as UGS PLM Solutions.
Prior to his current appointment, he served as East Coast account manager, Southern California branch manager, West Coast manager, Southeast branch manager and director of the East Coast Region for Unigraphics Solutions.
Arlin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University.
He represents Siemens PLM Software on the board of PACE (Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering), a partnership linking GM, Sun Microsystems, Siemens PLM Software and EDS in the support of strategically-selected academic institutions worldwide to develop the automotive product lifecycle management teams of the future.
Arlin is also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
Ed Arlin lives in Farmington Hills, Mich., and has three children, Alex, Kelsie and Tara. He is active in the Boy Scouts program as a den leader. His hobbies include tennis, football and reading.
