Turbomachinery Milling simplifies the NC programming process for machining complex 5-axis multi-bladed rotational parts, such as blisks and impellers for aero-engines, turbo-machinery and power generation equipment.
You can reduce programming effort by applying 5-axis NC programming functions configured specifically for machining multi-bladed, multi-axis rotational parts. Blades can be curved with undercuts. In addition, multiple splitters are supported.

Simultaneous 5-axis roughing enables you to perform highly flexible roughing by specifying parameters such as tool take-off, cut level offsets, depth of cut limits, drive pattern, step-over, the number of passes between blades, tool axis, smoothing options and path extension treatments for leading and trailing edges.

Rest milling automates removal of remaining material from previous operations, as well as optimizes tool engagement with the part, in an effort to minimize wasted air cutting time.

Hub finishing enables you to apply specially optimized tool paths designed for finishing impeller and blisk hubs, as well as precisely control the side step-over, cut pattern and tool path smoothing.

Blade finishing enables you to finish the main blades by specifying which sides of the blade to cut (section/pressure/both), as well as path pattern and tool axis stabilization parameters for leading and trailing edges.
True spiral patterns are available for constant cutting. Goto points are synchronized across and along the blade surface to maintain the best possible surface finish.

Splitter finishing. On some impellers there are smaller blades called splitters in-between the main blades. NX automates NC programming for blisk and impellers with single or multiple splitter blades. You can specify as many as six splitters.

Blend Finishing. Blends where the blades join the hub are finished with a specific operation that understands the clearance requirements for these surfaces. Blends can be processed using reference radii without having the modeled surfaces if desired.
NX Turbomachinery Milling enables you to work effectively with any CAD data regardless of its originating system. Blades can be made of one or many surfaces. Gaps and overlaps between surfaces are healed automatically. You can produce smooth flowing tool paths on adjacent surfaces with inconsistent UV parameter lines.

NX provides you with key supporting capabilities that standalone applications may not offer. For example, multiple levels of verification and simulation allow you to validate your programming decisions against your intended machining strategy.
G-code driven machine tool simulation run by the post processor inside NX CAM provides immediate and comprehensive validation of programming methods.
The entire process is based on a single part model from design data, through CAM and CMM programming. Teamcenter technology can provide full management of the process and data.
