You can automatically set up an assembly model in Femap using the contact detection functionality to establish the components that are initially touching. Various contact definitions are available that let you define representative mating conditions between connecting parts. The solution in NX Nastran is iterative and updates to take deformation changes into account providing the true contact condition in the final results.
