Today there are numerous groups involved in the design, layout, and installation of manufacturing facilities. These groups can range from basic architecture, to industrial engineering, to layout planning. Even external suppliers, such as line builders and equipment vendors, contribute and play an active role in the design process. Such diversity can make it difficult to communicate design principles effectively with these groups, much less collaborate efficiently. There is often a feeling of “disconnect” between the teams because everyone is working from their own unique data environment. Poor communications, the inability to collaborate effectively, and a lack of standardized resources are compounded by a layout planning process that does not accommodate for proper revision control, release management, or better yet, account for what is happening externally within the supply chain network.
In Context Editor (ICE) brings your diverse teams together through a managed and collaborative data environment. Productivity is increased by reducing the non-value added tasks associated with managing large volumes of facility data. Layout and facility engineering processes are transformed because focus can now be placed on value-added activities, such as coordinating the many disciplines within your organization as well as the supply chain network.
Using ICE, you can configure structures in Teamcenter. Once created, these structures are easily opened through ICE directly inside of AutoCAD® or FactoryCAD. Once connected through ICE, you can pick and choose the nodes you want to work with. There is no need to worry about parent-child relationships (reference data) within your structures as ICE will manage all of these relationships for you, eliminating the headaches that can come from working in large factory environments.
