Released July 2006
D-Cubed announces the latest release of its Hidden Line Manager (HLM), the most widely deployed component for hidden line computation. Excellent performance is achieved without compromising accuracy or reliability. The HLM is compatible with any application as it is independent of any particular modeller or model format. New enhancements specific to version 35.0 are listed below. See the full product description.
It is to be expected that a hidden line computation system such as the HLM should produce reliable results on models that themselves have a robust geometric definition. In such models, the faces, edges and vertices connect in a consistent manner to a high degree of geometric accuracy.
Many modellers produce accurate models, but not all. Even when they do, processes such as translation from one format to another can lead to a loss of model accuracy. In a market with an ever increasing demand for interoperability between PLM systems, such imperfect geometric data is more and more common. In order to support these models, the HLM employs a range of sophisticated algorithms designed to give reliable results on inaccurate geometry.
The process of developing such tolerant algorithms is continuous, as the software design issues are complex. The latest release of the HLM includes enhancements to those algorithms that handle models where edges only loosely lie on faces and vertices only loosely lie on edges. This has improved the robustness of hidden line computations on such models.
First released in 1999, the HLM is the most widely deployed hidden line solution in the CAD field. It accurately computes hidden line views, engineering drawings and technical illustrations of parts and assemblies with exceptional performance, reliability and functionality. Independent from any modeller or model format, the HLM operates on exact, faceted, solid or surface representations from any application.
D-Cubed software is part of the PLM Components suite of solutions and represents a family of geometric software components that enable key functionality in CAD, CAM, CAE, and PLM applications, including sketching, part and assembly modeling, motion simulation, collision detection, clearance measurement and hidden-line visualization.
