Released February 2007
D-Cubed announces the latest release of its Collision Detection Manager (CDM), the leading component for collision detection and clearance computations. With the CDM, excellent performance is achieved without compromising accuracy. The CDM is compatible with any application as it is independent of any particular modeller or model format. New enhancements specific to version 36.0 are listed below. See the full product description.
As well as computing collisions, the Collision Detection Manager also computes clearance, sometimes known as closest approach. Clearance is the minimum distance measured between the parts in an assembly, or between different collections of faces in a single part. The latter measurement can be used to determine the thinnest region of a thin walled part, for example. As with all CDM algorithms, performance is critical. Various performance enhancements have been implemented, including:
First released in 1999, the CDM is used in many leading CAD/CAM applications. Operating in assembly, mechanism, machining and measuring simulation environments, the CDM enables users to interact with their models with much improved realism and solidity, eliminating design errors caused by interpenetrating parts.
The CDM's success is due to a range of novel algorithms specifically designed to interactively detect collisions and compute clearances, even on large, complex assemblies. Performance is particularly excellent for repeated computations on models that are in motion. Independent from any modeller or model format, the CDM operates on exact, faceted, solid or surface representations in any application.
D-Cubed software is part of the PLM Components suite of solutions and represents a family of geometric software components that enable key functionality in CAD, CAM, CAE, and PLM applications, including sketching, part and assembly modeling, motion simulation, collision detection, clearance measurement and hidden-line visualization.
