Lanco Assembly Systems cites modeling solution's ease of use in significant cycle time reduction
To satisfy major clients and handle aggressive competitors, Lanco Assembly Systems implemented Solid Edge. The ability to re-use part data is providing a solid advantage.
Lanco builds modular assembly automation systems across industries, including automotive, appliance, electronics, medical and consumer products. Each turnkey system performs a specific function and may have anywhere from a few stations to dozens of stations. Most of Lanco’s systems are built around a standard platform, with many parts common to several systems. Lanco recognized the value in building a library from which to pull existing designs, thus eliminating the need to redo the same parts over and over again.
When solid modeling technology became available, Lanco immediately saw its time-saving potential. Lanco chose Solid Edge® software over other modelers for several reasons. Solid Edge’s employment of inference logic to present only the tools and icons needed for particular tasks exemplified its ease of use. This was in direct contrast to the confusing cascading menus offered in other systems, which typically take months to learn and use. Solid Edge’s dual capabilities of top-down and bottom-up assembly modeling allow designers to check interferences before actual construction. Once a customer approves a design, Solid Edge’s drafting tools allow Lanco to select views and add dimensions, notations and standard elements to quickly create the drawings. Lanco’s use of standard component libraries also make part re-use a snap.
Since adopting Solid Edge 3D modeling, Lanco Assembly Systems has reduced the time required to prepare drawings for new assembly systems by 50 percent. Once the digital model of a new system has been created, producing drawings is just a matter of creating views and adding dimensions and notations. Solid Edge also allows Lanco designers to create interference-free assemblies, which help reduce overall design time by 20 percent.
Lanco adopted leading-edge 3D modeling – Solid Edge – to fulfill its customers’ desires for faster product design and to meet an aggressive competitor base head on. With Solid Edge, Lanco is delivering innovative designs, manufacturing excellence, skilled equipment integration and superior service faster than ever before. Among the benefits of implementing the easiest-to-use solid modeler on the market, drawing time preparation for new assemblies has been cut in half, with overall design time realizing a double-digit improvement.
