PLANO, Texas and SEOUL, South Korea – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced that POSCO Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (POSCO E&C) has chosen UGS Teamcenter® Express software for its first product data management (PDM) system and expanded its Solid Edge® software deployment.
“By pairing Teamcenter Express and Solid Edge, we get a powerful and easy-to-use PLM solution that facilitates our day-to-day engineering tasks and processes,” said MinSoo Kim, deputy general manager, POSCO E&C. “Electing to enter into the PDM world is one of the most important decisions our company has made and it supports our vision of becoming one of the smartest and most innovative companies in our industry.”
The solutions used by POSCO E&C are key components of the UGS Velocity Series™ portfolio - Solid Edge is the CAD component and Teamcenter Express is the collaborative product data management (cPDM) component. UGS’ Velocity Series portfolio is the industry’s first comprehensive, preconfigured portfolio of digital product design, analysis, manufacturing and data management software for the PLM mid-market. UGS’ Velocity Series portfolio also includes Femap™ and NX™ CAM Express.
POSCO E&C has leveraged
Solid Edge for its integrated and managed design capability for
five years. One of POSCO E&C’s priorities in their
PLM decision was the integration between PDM and CAD. The
company found that Teamcenter Express provides the best integration
and requires minimum implementation time. With PDM in place,
POSCO E&C is expected to maximize product development
efficiency.
“As both Teamcenter Express and Solid Edge are part of UGS
Velocity Series, the decision was clear and
straight-forward,” added Kim. “Teamcenter Express
stood out through its seamless integration with Solid Edge and
collaborative design management functionality.”
“Similar to large organizations, mid-size manufacturers face issues like globalization and data management,” said K.R. Kwon, vice president of Korea Operations, UGS. “While these companies have previously focused on standalone solutions, today they need an integrated PLM product portfolio. Our Velocity Series portfolio enables mid-size manufacturers like POSCO E&C to leverage affordable enterprise-level PLM benefits with fast implementation and compete effectively with larger companies.”
In order to help accelerate PLM capabilities amongst mid-market manufacturers in Asia Pacific, UGS formed the Velocity Series Consortium with HP and Intel. The Consortium is dedicated to the development of solutions and services helping manufacturers reduce costs and minimize barriers to innovation. For more information, visit www.vsconsortium.net.
