FOR RELEASE Monday, October 23, 2006
PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced the winners of its Solid Edge® software computer-aided design (CAD) contest for the first half of 2006. Winning products were designed and rendered using Solid Edge, the CAD component of the UGS Velocity Series™ portfolio.
Top honors in EMEA went to Ing. Kucera Lukas of LEKOV, a.s. (Czech Republic) and to Reinhard Kittler of Industrial Design Union Kittler Kurz (IDUKK) (Austria). LEKOV (www.lekov.cz) is a leading industrial manufacturer of electric traction instruments. Lukas designed controllers that govern speed, traction power and direction change for a traction vehicle.
IDUKK (www.idukk.at) is a design firm focused on ergonomically sound and competitively manufacturable designs. Kittler designed an assembly and transportation facility for the manufacturing of diesel truck engines.
“Solid Edge supports freeform modeling without restricting the freedom of design,” said Reinhard Kittler, designer, IDUKK. “The technically oriented design of Solid Edge affords us advantages no pure drawing or painting software can offer.”
Top honors in Asia Pacific
went to Shrikar Nandavar and Vinay Mallapur of Miven Mayfran
Conveyors PVT., LTD. (India) and A.R. Menon of Miven Machine Tools
Ltd (India).
Miven Machine Tools (www.mivenmachinetools.com)
manufactures state-of-the-art turning machines or CNC lathes. Miven
Mayfran (www.mayfran.com)
designs conveyors, coolant filtration and other machinery with
Solid Edge for use in the vegetable oil extraction industry.
Miven Mayfran replaced its 2D AutoCAD® system with Solid Edge
and now delivers four machines in the time previously required to
complete just one.
“Solid Edge has
helped us to build virtual prototypes thus greatly enabling the
optimization of existing designs and development of newer designs
specific to requirements,” says Kishore Sirur, manager
R&D, Miven Mayfran.
Top honors in the Americas went to Hugo Bardou of Bardou
Consulting/Xprezo Cycles (Canada) and to Marc Stringer at AMF
(Canada). Bardou Consulting (www.xprezo.ca) is a mechanical
engineering services firm and Xprezo Cycles designs and produces
high-end, handmade bicycle frames. Bardou designed a
double-suspension high-end bicycle frame with Solid Edge. AMF
(www.amfbakery.com) is a
leading supplier of equipment, parts and service to the wholesale
bakery industry. Stringer used Solid Edge to design an offset
tilt bowl mixer and rotary dough chunker. The company reports
that its move from 2D AutoCAD to Solid Edge has reduced design time
by 50 percent and assembly time by up to 20 percent.
Each winner receives a SpaceBall 5000™ motion controller from Solid Edge Voyager Program member 3Dconnexion, a Logitech company. To see the winning images and contest details, visit www.solidedge.com/successes/design.contest.htm.
