PLANO, Texas, July 3, 2007 – UGS PLM Software, a division of Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced that FAST AG, Switzerland, has incorporated both the Parasolid® and D-Cubed™ 3D Dimensional Constraint Manager (3D DCM) software components into the latest version of its GraphiteOne™ 3D Design CAD product.
Parasolid was selected by FAST AG to replace the previous geometric modeling kernel used in GraphiteOne 3D Design on the basis of its superior functionality and quality. The 3D DCM integration builds upon the Parasolid modeling technology with a range of parametric design capabilities such as sketching, assembly part positioning and kinematic simulation. In addition to functional improvements, users of GraphiteOne 3D Design now also benefit from translation-free exchange of 3D models with the global community of Parasolid-based CAD, CAM, CAE and PLM systems via Parasolid’s open XT file format.
“We selected UGS PLM Software because it is a leading, well-respected provider of high-quality components with a proven record of supporting open solutions,” said Thomas Schmidt, development manager for the GraphiteOne product line, FAST AG. “Building our application on Parasolid and 3D DCM provides twin benefits for FAST AG, enabling us to focus resources on adding more new functionality for our customers, while at the same time delivering a higher quality product in less time.”
“Many CAD, CAM, CAE and PLM software vendors choose to source their core modeling, parametric design and interoperability technology from UGS PLM Software,” said Chuck Grindstaff, executive vice president of Products for UGS PLM Software. “We are constantly improving our offering to ensure that the millions of designers and engineers using Parasolid and D-Cubed based software products continue to derive maximum benefit as they produce, analyze and manufacture the world’s most innovative products.”

UGS PLM Components;
Parasolid and D-Cubed
UGS PLM Components are software tools that promote innovation,
standardization and interoperability within the CAD, CAM, CAE and
PLM marketplace. UGS PLM Software develops these components, uses
them throughout its own applications and licenses them to
independent software vendors (ISVs) and end-user organizations.
Part of the UGS PLM Components family of products, Parasolid and
D-Cubed components enable 3D part and assembly modeling, editing
and interoperability, 2D/3D parametric sketching, motion
simulation, collision detection, clearance measurement and
visualization. Applications include mechanical CAD, CAM, CAE, mold
design, sheet metal, AEC, GIS, structural, plant and ship design,
