PLANO, Texas, September 8, 2011 - Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced it has measured excellent results in performance and scalability tests for its Teamcenter® software running on the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 database and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system. The testing simulated 5000 simultaneous user sessions – which can equate to many more potential users in a typical global environment. Conducted in conjunction with Microsoft and with the help and support of HP and Intel, the test results demonstrate the full enterprise capabilities of the Microsoft SQL Server database for PLM.
“Today’s announcement is further proof that the combination of Teamcenter and the Microsoft technology stack is an excellent choice for companies of all sizes looking for a high performance PLM system with a low total cost of ownership,” said Steve Bashada, vice president of Teamcenter Applications, Siemens PLM Software. “Since the number of simultaneous users within any given enterprise is only a fraction of the number of actual users, these tests confirm that the system we tested would support many large enterprise PLM implementations. We are grateful to our partners HP and Intel for providing the hardware and technical support, and of course to Microsoft for sharing their expertise and teamwork throughout the process.”
Siemens PLM Software and Microsoft shared equal responsibility in arranging and conducting the performance tests, which utilized their latest software offerings. Teamcenter 8.3 was deployed on SQL Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Using HP ProLiant DL580 G7 servers and Intel Xeon X7560 processors, 5000 concurrent Teamcenter users were simulated using a standard testing methodology executing common PLM actions.
“Thanks to our strong partnership with Siemens PLM Software, we have been able to work together very closely to fine tune our technology stack and their industry leading Teamcenter software to deliver a comprehensive PLM system that is fully enterprise capable,” said Sanjay Ravi, managing director, Worldwide Discrete Manufacturing Industry, Microsoft Corp. “As a result, our integrated offerings allow our joint customers to maximize their PLM investment by extending PLM to every desktop, collaborating without barriers, and simplifying their IT infrastructure.”
