Daimler AG has selected CAD Software from Siemens PLM Software as their standard for their worldwide vehicle development. Starting in the summer of 2012, Daimler will integrate work from over 20 development centers and their most important suppliers on a single product development platform. Both companies have agreed not to disclose the contract value.
With the decision for the NX CAD Software of Siemens, Daimler completes their current implementation of Teamcenter, the company’s product data management (PDM) backbone. Based on this combination, the automotive manufacturer will establish digital collaboration from initial concept design, through simulation during design, down to proof of concept of design solutions. The consolidation of digital product information in one single worldwide data pool will facilitate new vehicle development. The introduction of parallel processes in development, design, production planning and production will further optimize the entire value chain.
Chrysler Group LLC, which produces Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram Truck and Mopar® vehicles and products, began using Teamcenter software, Siemens PLM Software’s digital lifecycle management solution, as its corporate-wide PDM system in 2008. Teamcenter provides a single source of product knowledge across a company, available at any time in any location during the product development process. Chrysler Group has now added NX software, Siemens PLM Software’s comprehensive digital product development solution, to provide efficiency gains in engineering and design and to help create a common product development platform.
The Ford Fusion™ Hybrid and Ford Transit Connect™ were named 2010 North American Car of the Year and Truck of the Year, respectively. Separately, the entire Ford Fusion lineup captured the acclaimed MOTOR TREND® Car of the Year award for 2010.
As a leading provider of PLM software and services for the automotive and transportation industry, Siemens PLM Software is a mission-critical partner for Ford Motor Company, providing PLM solutions to enable key business process improvement initiatives. Ford utilizes Siemens PLM Software’s technology for product development, product data management and digital manufacturing.
Presented at The World Exposition Shanghai China 2010 (Expo 2010), the latest enhancements to NX 7 include significant new functionality throughout all aspects of the software. In addition, NX, together with Teamcenter software, are the first products to support Siemens PLM Software’s new High Definition PLM (HD-PLM) technology framework.
“The recent decision by Daimler to make an enterprise-wide change in their standard product design and development system reflects an overall change in attitude and perspective regarding legacy PLM systems by large discrete manufacturers. Companies are beginning to take a new look at the overall investment and total cost of ownership (TCO) of their legacy design systems, and now entertain the possibility of alternative design systems at an enterprise level.”

“Daimler’s commitment to migrate to Siemens PLM Software’s NX mechanical CAD solution further validates NX’s technical breadth and competency, and its growing acceptance and use by major original equipment manufacturers in the automotive industry. Daimler’s commitment also validates Siemens PLM Software’s approach and capabilities related to giving those manufacturers the flexibility to migrate rich 3D data from other CAD systems as their business needs require.”

“The Board of Directors-level decision at Daimler AG to shift all their product development to the Siemens PLM Software tool stack has dramatically shattered the complacent mindset that had been growing in automotive product lifecycle management (PLM) circles these past few years. The belief that Dassault Systèmes had captured and would retain a lion's share of European automotive OEMs was held by many executive insiders and industry observers alike. Once again, whenever the PLM industry seems to be following a predictable, steady direction, a major event occurs that forces all of us to reevaluate our assumptions and opinions.”
