Siemens PLM Software is proud to sponsor three teams in the FIRST (For Inspiration in Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. This event joins engineers from sponsor companies with local schools to design and build a robot to compete in a high-adrenalin contest fielding 2000 teams worldwide. The competition incorporates the excitement of a sporting event to introduce high school students to engineering. The 2007 competition kicks of in January when the next competition specifications will be revealed. Teams will have six weeks to design and build their robots before competitions start in March.
Team 158 with Siemens PLM Software and Live Oaks in Milford, Ohio just celebrated ten continuous years in the FIRST competition, thanks to the dedicated involvement of Siemens PLM Software engineers. The veteran status of being one of the oldest teams is shown by the low team number. Students use Solid Edge to model parts and assemble the robot mechanisms.
Siemens PLM Software also supports award-winning Team 469 with International Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Team 1985 with Hazelwood Central High School in Florissant, Missouri. Team 469 has the distinction of winning awards in every year of the team’s six year history, including first place in last year’s Detroit Regional competition. Siemens PLM Software support grows this year with “rookie” Team 1985, entering into the St. Louis Regional competition. Good luck to all these teams!
