Riri SA, a Swiss company founded in 1936, is a leading producer of high-quality zippers. The company manufactures zippers for different types of products, from leather goods to clothing, and from shoes to shoulder gear. It also produces high-tech products for special applications, including army tents and survival equipment. Riri's engineering process is a collaboration between the technical and industrial engineering departments, and involves a team of 12 people who are responsible for all design stages, test-related documents, verifications and approvals, and project revisions – essentially the entire product development cycle. This team is where the company first implemented Solid Edge® software from Siemens PLM Software. Having a positive experience with using Solid Edge, Riri later chose Teamcenter Express as their product data management solution.
One of Firewire Surfboards’ biggest challenges is the preference of hardcore surfers for boards that are custom-shaped to order – made for them specifically, to suit their individual styles and local wave conditions. But due to the complexity of Firewire Surfboards’ production processes and raw materials, custom board design placed an extraordinary burden on its CAD capacity. While the company was able to develop custom surfboards for its international team of surfers, offering custom designs to the market-at-large would have created an enormous CAD backlog and bottleneck. ShapeLogic, a Siemens PLM Software technology partner and channel partner, developed a new online customization solution using NX™ software. ShapeLogic’s patent-pending solution, named ShapeLogic Design-To-Order Live! for NX, combines an internet-enabled user interface with intelligent parametric models and advanced 3D CAD tools to offer a direct-to-the-consumer customization system.
