UGS' expertise in manufacturing technology has firmly established our reputation as a thought leader and pioneer in developing CAM solutions. In fact, for the last five years, we have been rated as the market leader (based on vendor revenue) in CIMdata's annual report on the CAM market.
Our success rests on our proven ability to help companies achieve higher manufacturing efficiency. For instance, in recent versions of our NX™ software we have specifically focused on helping our customers take advantage of the latest, most innovative machine tools. Companies are investing in equipment such as high speed mills, combination mill-turn centers and 5-axis machines to offer increased productivity and efficiency on the shop floor and to machine increasingly complex parts. These are significant investments and it is critical that the CAM software these companies choose provides the range and depth of capability needed to maximize the value of that investment. Many machine shops are small to medium-size businesses and our work with these customers led to our development of the new NX CAM Express. NX CAM Express is part of the UGS Velocity Series™ portfolio of products developed specifically for companies of this size and their unique needs. Our objective was to provide a powerful CAM solution that was flexible, easy to implement, easy to learn and easy to use, with a low cost of ownership. It also needed to be scalable - enabling a company to expand its capabilities as the business grows and evolves.
NX CAM Express fully incorporates UGS' manufacturing knowledge and proven strength in CAM to provide the advanced capabilities NC programmers need to fully utilize today's complex machine tools. It is designed to be used independently of any specific CAD system, or can be easily integrated with UGS' NX™ CAD or Solid Edge® digital product development solutions. As part of the UGS Velocity Series it can also be combined with other products in the portfolio - Teamcenter™ Express for collaborative product information management and Femap™, a Finite Element Analysis tool - and is scalable to the full range of UGS' PLM solutions.
Easy to install, the software comes out of the box with built-in tutorials that take a new user through typical process steps to perform each major software function. Companies can choose to pre-set the system with standard processes and industry best practices, which helps new users to become productive with less training while still enabling experienced users to take full advantage of the power and flexibility of the system. Also, because readily available post-processors are so critical to CAM success, a post processor library, hosted and supported by UGS' Global Technical Access Center (GTAC), is directly accessible online from within NX CAM Express.
NX CAM Express is an exciting addition to UGS' product portfolio that enables small and mid-size manufacturers to gain a degree of value from their CAM and machine tool investments and a broad PLM capability that has not previously been available to them.
