UGS Partners Support Open Digital Simulation Framework

Partnerships are one of the reasons that UGS is a leader in solving complex product lifecycle management (PLM) problems. Historically, UGS has been credited as the 'most practiced company with open systems, heterogeneous data, and process integration across multiple industrial sectors. ¹

Our PLM Open strategy is pervasive throughout UGS' PLM solution portfolio, including the company's digital simulation solutions, which are built upon an open digital simulation framework. This open approach allows for rapid and efficient interface capabilities for third-party CAE applications, which provide specialized applications that address numerous customer requirements.

Recently, UGS has either upgraded or initiated such PLM Open partnerships with the following world-class CAE solution providers: Blue-Ridge Numerics, Inc., CD-adapco, DatapointLabs, Fluent, and Simmetrix.

Blue-Ridge Numerics, Inc.

Since 1992 Blue Ridge Numerics has been putting full-feature fluid flow and heat transfer simulation upfront in the product development process. CFdesign™, the company's award-winning upfront CFD software solution, creates tremendous value for small, medium, and large companies around the world by integrating reliable simulation tools with leading MCAD systems, including UGS' NX™ design solutions software, where the design is done in NX and CFdesign is driven by the CAD model. Design changes can occur in NX, which allows the design to evolve in the CAD system rather than another geometry tool - a process that leverages existing CAD skills and training.

CD-adapco

CD-adapco is a leading global provider of full-spectrum engineering simulation solutions for fluid flow, heat transfer and stress, including CFD software, CAD-embedded CFD options, CAE consulting services and training. The company's STAR solutions for NX™ software enable users of NX to add CFD to existing models. With STAR solutions for NX, full associativity means that geometries can be changed in the CAD system, and a new CFD solution can be quickly found without further set-up required. This facilitates parametric optimization and enables different groups in major NX adopter organizations to adopt a mentoring approach and even "co-work" on the same models in an enterprise-wide way.

DatapointLabs

DatapointLabs, L.L.C. is an expert materials testing company providing services for polymers, plastics, rubber, food, ceramics and metals. With the increasing use of modern non-linear materials such as composites, metals, rubber, elastomers, plastics and foams, CAE users are increasingly faced with the dilemma of where to get material data inputs for their simulation programs. Through its partnership with UGS, DatapointLabs provides material property data through its TestPaks™ technology for UGS' NX™ Nastran users. With TestPaks, NX Nastran users will be able to have their materials tested to generate 'load & go' material models for their analyses.

Fluent, Inc.

Fluent is the world's largest provider of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and consulting services. Fluent's software suite includes design-centric tools such as FloWizard® software that allow an engineer to rapidly evaluate multiple design alternatives, as well a full-physics design and analysis CFD package, FLUENT. The software is used for simulation, visualization, and analysis of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, flow-induced noise and chemical reactions. Of great importance to any design or process engineer is the seamless transfer of engineering data between CAE tools. Fluent's rapid flow modeling tool, FloWizard, equipped with a Parasolid® kernel native reader, allows an engineer to read UGS NX part and assembly models, with no translation required, and then quickly generate the flow field and temperature profiles for a particular design.

Simmetrix, Inc.

Simmetrix is a provider of OEM component technology, software tools, and services for CAD/CAE integration. In its partnership with UGS, Simmetrix offers its full range of simulation modeling toolkits available in its Simmetrix Simulation Modeling Suite with direct NX geometry access for other UGS software partners with NX Open API licenses. The combination of the simulation modeling capabilities in the Simmetrix suite and the geometry access provided through the NX API will provide customers with capabilities to develop integrated design/simulation applications based on NX geometry.
