Teamcenter 2005 Introduces Visualization Enhancements to Improve Performance and Integration Across the Portfolio
Teamcenter Visualization 2005 (version 6.0), the Industry Leading Visualization / Validation suite adds three major functional enhancements; Visualization Publish, Concept Desktop, and Concept Showroom. Scheduled for general availability at the end of May, this release promises to bring tremendous value through advanced process innovation within the Teamcenter 2005 portfolio release.
Teamcenter Visualization 2005 introduces more than 100 new enhancements to improve performance and integration across the Teamcenter portfolio, addressing key customer requests and superior usability. Next-generation Visualization Publish, Visualization Concept Desktop and Visualization Concept Showroom, now built on the core Teamcenter Visualization platform, leverages your digital information assets for digital publishing, work instructions, near photorealistic rendering, design and styling reviews.
These important enhancements reaffirm the industry leadership of Teamcenter Visualization. In addition to the legendary large model performance, Teamcenter Visualization 2005 harnesses the power of JT. JT has become the world's most widely used visualization format, thus extending the power of 3D to an ever-growing audience of product development stakeholders and contributors who need the data contained in a CAD file but don't need - or want - to use a CAD tool to get to it.
Introducing new technical publication and illustration features
The next generation Teamcenter Visualization Publish product creates an integrated, dynamic environment for authoring and distributing technical publications. With this add-on to Teamcenter Visualization Professional or Mockup, Publish users capture 3D geometry assets that they easily drag-and-drop onto a technical illustration -- maintaining links to their existing JT files -- that can all be managed by Teamcenter. Visualization Professional has been enhanced to include high-performance outline capture and exploded view creation including a thrustline editor that articulates how assemblies come together. A new callout and symbol manager allow for addition of the finishing touches required to completely annotate technical illustrations. Leveraging the familiar Microsoft Visio™ environment, users gain a wealth of layout functionality and control to combine the 3D assets with Visio stencils, 2D graphics, text, and data tables into complete portfolios that even include a table of contents. Visualization Professional users' are able to view technical illustrations including access to the 3D geometry with a simple double-click. Other publishing options include print, Visio, other 3rd party viewing applications and HTML for the web. Most importantly, however, is Publish's ability to automatically detect and update the geometry assets and managed text when a change to the source geometry occurs. This eliminates the time and cost of rework typical of other technical publication solutions making Teamcenter Visualization Publish a "must-have" for your organization.
New - Visualization Concept
Concept is now an add-on to Teamcenter Visualization Professional or Mockup replacing the retired VisConcept product and is fully integrated with Teamcenter. This brings the best of both worlds into a common architecture to build on your existing investment in JT data. Concept Desktop is designed to enable anyone to add near photo-realistic appearances in an environment that supports real-time interaction for true immersive digital mockup. The new appearance workspace provides precise control and unprecedented flexibility to create and edit materials, textures, and lights including sophisticated tools for environment mapping, textures and bump maps. The assembly/scene workspace enables management of all the components of a "scene" to produce multiple configurations for evaluation by teams such as for interactive design review. With the inclusion of the new behaviors capabilities, users can animate their models and even trigger variant and color substitutions in a "flip book" fashion as well as the new presenter feature that controls the playback for more control during reviews. You can't get closer to reality unless you actually build it first!
Concept Showroom extends the models developed in Concept Desktop (or any Teamcenter Visualization application) into "virtual reality" by supporting today's high-end, immersive, projection hardware. Supported environments include fully-enclosed CAVE rooms that have projectors on all sides (can even include the floor!), multi-projector curved cove walls, or even basic power walls spanning multiple screens. Users of these environments appreciate Concept Showroom's true 1:1 scale projections and interactive tracking devices for full immersion to get a "feel" for dimension and to evaluate product reach, visibility, and even conduct packaging studies to make more informed product decisions earlier in the development process without requiring expensive physical prototypes. A picture may be worth a thousand words but eliminating a prototype is worth thousands, and even hundreds of thousands of dollars!
New - Support for CAE results
Another significant addition to Teamcenter Visualization 2005 is support for CAE results in a JT file. Now analysts can output NX results (including I-deas NX Series with Femap coming soon) in JT format for viewing by any JT-enabled application with Visualization Professional providing the added benefits of the color legend, notes, and annotations. This enables reviewers to interact with the results directly in 3D versus the static images or non-interactive videos typical of the analysis world. With JT support for CAE results, teams can use Teamcenter Visualization tools to interrogate 3D models measuring specific locations or validating results in the context of adjacent components. They can even collaborate on the models exchanging markups or visual issues. Analysis results aren't limited to the analysts anymore!
New hardware platform support, including 64-bit operating systems
In support of Teamcenter Visualization's industry leading large assembly capabilities, Teamcenter Visualization 2005 adds support for 64-bit operating systems. 64-bit addressability removes the memory limitation (2-3 GB) beyond that which a computer can physically accommodate, enabling extremely large models to be loaded without paging to disk. Now complete products such as planes, trains, and automobiles can be visualized on high-end desktop computers. Hardware platform support now includes: HP-UX 32 & 64 bit, Sun Solaris 32 & 64 bit (including Solaris 9), IBM AIX 5.1 32-bit, SGI IRIX 32 and 64-bit as well as Prism support via Transitive's QuickTransit. Support for Linux is scheduled for the end of 2005 and Windows XP 64 support early next year.
