Teamcenter for MRO Extends Value with 2005 Releases
With the year-end releases of Teamcenter™ Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) solutions, UGS' vision to deliver the rich product knowledge of the Teamcenter PLM system to front-line service and maintenance crews is realized. September marked the latest release of the Teamcenter for MRO suite's flagship solution, In-Service; while October brought the release of a new solution, Maintenance Planning.
In-Service solution offers enhanced asset management capabilities, delivered with MRO Foundation
The September release of In-Service (read full press release) offers enhanced asset management capabilities to provide logistics and maintenance organizations with real-time access to accurate and up-to-date product information. In-Service provides total visibility to an entire base of capital assets, including access to configuration knowledge that comprehensively describes each asset in its in-service or operational state.
With the Teamcenter 2005 release, MRO Foundation provides all the necessary foundation capabilities required to establish a truly integrated environment for service operations. MRO Foundation capabilities include workflow, collaboration, complex document management, change control, records retention management, role based security and full International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) support for multi-national operations. This integrated foundation simplifies implementation and deployment.
With this release, In-Service significantly extends its ability to enable customers to manage their products’ configurations or bills-of-material (BOMs), providing functionality and processes to manage a variety of BOMs:
- Neutral BOM management, along with all configuration variations and options
- As-built/as-delivered BOM for each physical asset
- As-maintained/as-operated BOM
Additionally, In-Service provides for the definition and management of life characteristics for assets and components, permitting accurate knowledge of remaining life to support maintenance planning input including running counters, calculated values and flow down values. This integrated level of accuracy and the associated processes greatly increase productivity while simplifying the MRO process.
New solution introduces configuration-driven maintenance planning
Maintenance Planning is the second solution to be released in the Teamcenter for MRO suite. The October introduction of Maintenance Planning capitalizes on the strength of the asset and information management released previously with In-Service. It supports the definition and management of maintenance requirements, standard procedures (work cards), and planning based on the configuration of operational status of assets.
The new Maintenance Planning solution utilizes the asset knowledge provided by Teamcenter 2005 and In-Service to optimize the process of the maintenance planning for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance operations and to optimize the actual execution of maintenance, repair and overhaul operations.
Maintenance Planning allows organizations to define maintenance requirements based on components, subsystems, or systems generically or specifically by position of usage. Standard procedures of work can be defined against those requirements. Using the life characteristics defined and measured in In-Service, maintenance and repair plans can be established for specific assets. These "dues lists" can be calculated based on present condition of the asset or expected future condition based on estimated utilization rates. Jobs can be established and optimized using the requirements and work cards.
Maintenance Planning provides the capability for MRO organizations to reduce MRO cycle time and costs and ensure asset availability and reliability through optimized planning permitted by maintenance requirements based on accurate asset configuration knowledge.
