Teamcenter Enterprise Integration Links Product Development and Procurement Functions
In early August, UGS released the integration of Teamcenter Sourcing with Teamcenter Enterprise. The integration creates a vital linkage between the engineering and procurement functions, allowing companies to combine their sourcing and supplier development functionality with the program management, bill of material (BOM) management, and engineering data management functionality enabled by Teamcenter. Procurement professionals now can provide input to product design data via Teamcenter thus reducing product costs and cycle times.
Why is this important? According to Tim Minahan of the Aberdeen Group, "Our most recent E-Sourcing Index (ESI) study found sourcing managers are getting involved in the design process too late to have maximum impact on product costs, quality and time-to-market cycles. When sourcing managers are involved earlier in the product design cycle, companies are able to drive greater than 20 percent cost savings."
The integration extends Teamcenter's leadership position as an integrated enterprise-wide product development, collaboration and sourcing platform; providing a good example of how Teamcenter transforms the process of PLM by powering innovation with knowledge.
Teamcenter Creates a "Sourcing Community"
Also this summer, Teamcenter Sourcing's contract management and sourcing team tools and workflow have been enhanced through integration with Teamcenter Community to establish a "sourcing community." Benefits from this integration include:
- Synchronizes every member of the sourcing team. Users gain access to product knowledge without leaving their familiar Microsoft work environment, allowing more people throughout the extended enterprise, including partners and suppliers, to participate in the product lifecycle sourcing processes.
- Provides real-time workflow collaboration services. Users gain access to a rich set of collaboration services, including calendars, schedules, workflow, virtual meeting sites, instant messaging and virtual conferencing thus streamlining product lifecycle sourcing processes for improved time-to-market, increased productivity and reduced costs.
