New Release of Teamcenter Requirements Integrates Systems Engineering with the Product Lifecycle
July's release of Teamcenter Requirements marks an industry first - the integration of requirements/systems engineering with lifecycle information management - for enterprise-wide requirements traceability throughout a product's lifecycle.
With this new Teamcenter release, the same system that manages requirements will also provide the tools for systems engineers to define the correct set of requirements. Systems engineers define the whole solution to a problem taking into account all product aspects before starting product development. By bringing systems engineers into the lifecycle, Teamcenter fosters communication and collaboration for better product decision-making. Any change to the product requirements in the course of the product lifecycle can be validated by systems engineering in the context of the whole system.
Three areas of new Teamcenter functionality are particularly noteworthy for the benefit users will derive in their definition of product requirements:
- Shared structures throughout the lifecycle. Ad-hoc and existing product structure information is needed as the starting point of product development. Teamcenter now links requirements to product structures to ensure that requirements are tied to assemblies, parts, change, etc.
- Delivery of requirements through those product structures. With this month's release, Teamcenter allows requirements to flow through the product structures for access by lifecycle participants responsible for implementing the requirements (i.e., a requirement associated with a part surface or mass property or a code module in a software development environment). Teamcenter delivers requirements to the point of design decision and provides visibility to the impact of requirements change.
- Validation/verification of requirements throughout the lifecycle. With this future enhancement, Teamcenter will allow users to validate/verify requirement compliance through the product structures, for example this dimension or feature is within the required envelope. Teamcenter will deliver requirements to internal validation engines and provide system-wide verification/compliance-proving to meet regulatory compliance. Teamcenter will also automate document import/export to vaults that include verification/validation information.
